Description

Based on 31 worms (wholemounts of 15 mature worms and 4 immature worms, 11 scoleces, scolex and posterior portion of the strobila of 1 hologenophores). Adult worms are large, 96–303 mm long (167 ± 16; 13), greatest width at level of immature proglottid, 0.232–1.1 mm (0.582 ± 0.03; 13; 41); 267–511 (370 ± 17; 13) proglottids per worm; apolytic; genital pores marginal, irregularly alternating, 27–48% (41 ± 1.4; 13; 17) of proglottid length from posterior end. Scolex consists of scolex proper and elongate cephalic peduncle. Scolex proper with four bothridia, 0.75–1.19 mm (0.94 ± 0.02; 26) long by 0.73–1.31 mm (1 ± 0.03; 27) wide. Bothridia free posteriorly, 235–924 (494 ± 17; 27; 41) wide; each with three loculi and specialized anterior region in form of muscular pad; muscular pad 73–186 (116 ± 5; 27; 38) long by 254–452 (311 ± 7; 27; 38) wide, bearing apical sucker and one pair of hooks below posterior margin, triangular in shape, posterior margins pronounced; sometimes lateral margins can be added as additional suckers. Apical sucker 37–211 (105 ± 6.4; 27; 38) long by 71–218 (144 ± 6; 27; 38) wide; anterior loculus 231–434 (346 ± 7.2; 27; 46) long; middle loculus 100–352 (179 ± 6.2; 27; 45) long; posterior loculus 96–243 (160 ± 4.1; 27; 45) long, loculus length ratio (anterior:middle:posterior) 1:0.3–0.9 (0.53 ± 0.02; 27; 45):0.23–0.7 (0.48 ± 0.02; 27; 45); maximum width of scolex at level of middle loculus. Conspicuous muscular velum between medial margins of adjacent bothridia at posterior margin of posterior loculus. Hooks bipronged, hollow, with tubercle on proximal surface of axial prong, the bases of the hooks and partly the abaxial and axial prongs are covered from above with a dense leathery growth, the axial and abaxial prongs have no growths; internal channels of axial and abaxial prongs continuous, smooth; axial prongs longer than abaxial prongs; medial and lateral hooks approximately equal in length. Lateral hook measurements: A 75–132 (105 ± 2; 27; 45), B 94–153 (126 ± 2.3; 27; 45), C 25–91 (65 ± 2; 27; 44), D 136–247 (203 ± 4; 27; 45). Medial hook measurements: A´ 68–129 (106 ± 2.1;27; 43), B´ 89–157 (126 ± 2.3; 27; 42), C´ 41–114 (65 ± 2; 27; 41), D´ 166–245 (206 ± 3.4; 27; 42). Bases of hooks embedded in musculature of scolex pad. Cephalic peduncle very long 2.41–8.41 mm (5.56 ± 0.3; 19), maximum width immediately behind the scolex 0.21–1.1 mm (0,64 ± 0,06; 19).
Proglottids аcraspedote, protandrous. Immature proglottids 114–480 (317 ± 20; 16) in number; rectangular, the width prevails over the length; mature 24–72 (45 ± 6.2; 8) in number, 0.74–2.1 mm (1.5 ± 0.1; 8; 16) long by 0.275–1.03 mm (0.71 ± 0.05; 8; 16) wide, length prevails over width, length:width ratio 1.23–4:1 (2.2 ± 0.2; 8; 16). Terminal mature proglottids 1.63–2.52 mm (2.06 ± 0.1; 7) long by 0.45–1.1 mm (0.75 ± 0.1; 7) wide; length:width ratio 2.11–5.6 (3 ± 0.5; 7):1. Gravid proglottids not observed. Testes irregularly oval in dorsoventral view, 28–86 (57 ± 4.3; 8; 17) long by 27–77 (53 ± 3.3; 8; 17) wide, arranged irregularly anterior to ovarian isthmus to the anterior margin proglottids, 1 layers deep. Testes 101–140 (118 ± 2; 13; 33) in total number, 12–22 (16 ± 0.4; 13; 33) в post-vaginal field; 34–60 (42 ± 1; 13; 33) pre-vaginal; 46–72 (59 ± 1.1; 13; 33) aporal. Vas deferens is extensive, forms numerous loops, extends along the medial line of proglottids to its anterior margin, diameter 32–84 (53 ± 4; 8; 15). Cirrus sac, ovoid, straight, 187–363 (249 ± 13; 9; 15) long by 115–257 (169 ± 11; 9; 15) wide, containing coiled cirrus; cirrus slightly expanded at base; base and some of length of cirrus covered with thin spinitriches. Vagina relatively thick walled, strongly sinuous, extending from ootype along medial line of proglottid to anterior margin of cirrus-sac, then laterally following anterior margin of cirrus-sac to common genital atrium; vaginal sphincter absent; seminal receptacle not seen. Ovary occupies posterior third of proglottid, 266–652 (474 ± 26; 10; 15) wide at level of isthmus, H-shaped in frontal view, tetralobed in cross-section, conspicuously lobulated; asymmetric; poral lobe 283–872 (558 ± 49; 10; 15) long, extending anteriorly to posterior margin of cirrus sac; aporal lobe 365–1145 (731 ± 65; 10; 15) long, extending anteriorly to anterior margin vagina; ovarian isthmus in posterior third of ovary. Mehlis’ gland posterior to ovarian isthmus. Vitellarium follicular, consisting of 2 lateral bands; each band consisting of 2 columns of relatively small follicles, extending from near anterior margin of proglottid to near posterior of ovary, interrupted by vagina and cirrus sac, not interrupted by ovary; vitelline follicles irregular, 17–33 (26 ± 1.5; 6; 11) long by 10.4–52 (32 ± 4; 6; 11) wide. Uterus thin-walled, sacciform, extending from near anterior margin of proglottid to ovarian isthmus. Excretory ducts lateral, in one dorsal and one ventral pair, diameter 13.6–29.2 (23 ± 2.7; 6). Eggs not observed.
